HEAR YOUR OWN VOICE
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
HAVE YOU EVER HEARD YOUR OWN VOICE AND CRINGED? When you left your
greeting on your answering machine, how many times did it take to
get it right? Does it sound like you, or more like some morphed,
harsh, unorganized, weak voice? What is so scary about the sound of
our own voices? Do we really sound meek when we speak up in a
crowded room or when we hear ourselves recorded? Is it how we sound
or what we are saying? We say, get over all of that. Trust your
voice, use it and remember to tune out everything else. Your voice
is your guide and it sounds great.
OWN YOUR THOUGHTS AND TRUST THEM. If you believe in what you are
saying, then you may enjoy speaking more. Take your time and slow
things down. Concentrate on what's real for you and speak from that.
Confidence radiates, especially in our voices.
USE IT OR LOSE IT. I've heard people use the phrase, "If you don't
use it, you lose it," and maybe that's true with our voices. Speak
up once, and the second time isn't as bad. Speak up for your self,
ask for what you want, and most importantly, speak your truth and
everything gets better. Your opinion is valid. Make sure others hear
it.
REMEMBER, THE WORLD IS LOUD. Often, if we don't stop and literally
stick our fingers in our ears, we can go days without hearing that
little voice inside our heads. Take notice of what does enable you
to hear yourself. Is it a bath or a walk? Create space for listening
to you so that when you listen to what is around you, you're still
able to identify your own voice. We easily mistake other people's
voices (especially our parents) for our own. Through practice and
active listening, we can be sure to hear ourselves in every moment.
MAKE THIS SHIFT: Be your own best guide. Listen to your voice and use it.
